CHRISTMAS IN THE HARRY POTTER SERIES: NOT A JOLLY SIGHT!

If you intend to buy the Harry Potter series for your children this Christmas, think again, because the way Christmas is treated in these books is sobering, to say the least.

In Book 4 of the Potter saga, the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ is squarely called “a small thing”: “As Binns [a ghost teacher] hadn’t let his own death stand in the way of continuing to teach, they [Harry & friends] supposed a small thing like Christmas wasn’t going to put him off” (4-342).

Remember that a ghost is the soul of a dead person, and that no departed soul, unless it has already landed in Hell, would ever call Christmas a small thing.
